Your questions answered
What do I need to bring?
We suggest you come prepared for all weathers so definitely wellies, wet weather gear, beach towels, sunscreen, warm jumpers and hats for around the fire in the evening, slippers, food, drinks, toiletries and beds/blankets for dogs. The beds in the tents all have extra thick duvets plus loads of extra blankets and hot water bottles should you need them. There are gas heaters in the tents to take the chill off in the evenings but even in the middle of summer the nights can get cold and you are sleeping under canvas so do bring some warm clothes.
What time can I arrive?
Check in is from 3.30pm. Please do let us know your planned arrival time on the day and call or text when you are half an hour away. We are around most of the time but need to do school pick ups etc so please keep in touch so we can be sure to be there to welcome you. Please do not arrive early as we'll be busy getting the tents ready.
Where do I park?
There is a car parking area next to the entrance to the camping field. When you first arrive and before you leave (as long as the camping field is not waterlogged) we are happy for you to drive down to your tent to unload and load. Then for the rest of your stay we kindly ask you to park in the car park and walk down to your tent. This helps to maintain the grass tracks in the fields and also makes the site a much safer place for children. There are wheelbarrows in the car park for transporting shopping etc. We can obviously be more flexible if you have mobility issues.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes we do allow up to 2 dogs per tent but you please bring their own beds/blankets as they are not allowed on the sofas or beds at any time. Please keep them under control at all times as we have sheep on the farm and free ranging chickens up at the house. Also they must not be left alone in the tent. We provide dog waste bins around the site and kindly ask guests to use them.
Where is the nearest shop?
We now have a small honesty shop on site which sells a few basics such as eggs from our hens, bacon, milk, bread, ice, biscuits, chocolate, charcoal, firelighters etc. Axminster has plenty of shops and a decent sized Tesco and Coop supermarket and is just over a mile from the property. You can walk down the bridle path into town in half an hour or drive in 5 minutes. In the marketplace there is a wonderful little food market every Thursday morning.
Can we walk to a pub?
Yes there are pubs in Axminster, The George in the centre of Axminster is a great new pub with good food and is a 30 minute walk down the hill. There is a wonderful 45 minute walk along the bridle paths and country lanes to the picturesque village of Hawkchurch which has a lovely pub called the Old Inn which serves lunch and evening meals.
Do I need to bring wood for the campfire?
Each tent has a complimentary crate of logs and kindling on arrival, then more creates can be purchased from the log store near the car park.
What if I need to do laundry?
There is a washing machine in the honesty shop which is free for guests to use and there are eco friendly washing tabs provided.
Can we meet the animals?
Yes of course, just let us know and you can come and feed the sheep.
What time is check out?
Please be ready to vacate the tent promptly at 10.30am, if you plan to leave earlier please let us know so that we can pop down and say goodbye before you go.
